Broadway Country House
This sensitively restored Victorian hotel is set in 5 acres of gardens and woodland, with stunning views over Carmarthen Bay and beyond to North Devon.
This charming country retreat is situated on the outskirts of the historic town of Laugharne, famous for its castle and more recently, for Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, who did much of his writing in the boathouse there.
Broadway Country House is situated between Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire. All the wonders of West Wales are on the doorstep, including Pembrokeshire National Park, local theme parks, picturesque beaches, rugged countryside and Pendine Sands, famous as the home of many attempts on the world land-speed record.
Originally built 300 years ago, the hotel was extended in 1914, with a new West wing and the Orangery added. Today, the hotel offers 9 recently refurbished en suite rooms, the majority with sea views.
Wireless internet access is available throughout. The hotel is just one mile (1.6 km) from Laugharne, where Dylan Thomas lived and wrote. Laugharne is believed to have been the inspiration for the fictional town of Llareggub in Under Milk Wood. Thomas lived and wrote in the boathouse set in the cliff, overlooking the glorious, heron-priested Taf Estuary. The town also has a historic castle and plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants.
Pendine is 3 miles (5 km) away and has a beach that is almost 7 miles (11.25 km) in length. The seaside resort is best known for Pendine Sands, where Malcolm Campbell and J.G. Parry-Thomas set the world land-speed record 5 times between 1924 and 1927. Today, the beach is also dog friendly.
The town of Tenby is a 20-minute drive from the hotel and the route takes you through Amroth, Wisemans Bridge and Saundersfoot. Tenby is a quiet seaside town that comes to life in the summer months. With its quaint buildings and charming cobbled streets, the town is a great place to pick up souvenirs of your holiday in the local shops. Whatever time of year you choose to visit, Broadway Country House always has something to offer. On summer days, you can enjoy the fantastic views and the gardens, flowers and wildlife. On colder days, you can warm yourself in front of the 3 open fireplaces and enjoy the hotel’s charming and historic interiors.
For small parties, the hotel can offer the restored Victorian Orangery, which can seat up to 35 people.
The hotel’s newer function room can cater for up to 100 people for formal events and up to 120 people for a more informal occasion.
