Built in 1850, this elegant Georgian house, overlooking the cricket green in the charming village of Parkend, invites you to relax and unwind at the heart of the Royal Forest of Dean.
Once the home of Bill Tandy, author of 'A Doctor in the Forest', the house has been restored to provide accommodation in an area of outstanding natural beauty and history.
Edale House is adjacent to the RSPB Nagshead bird reserve and accessible to the many miles of cycle paths within the Forest of Dean. Furthermore you can visit the historic village of Parkend. Please note that dogs can only be accommodated in the ground floor rooms. We are delighted to assist our guests with their holiday plans and keep up-to-date details and leaflets for all local attractions and activities. There is plenty to see and do in the surrounding area, including cycling, mountain biking, rambling, walking, caving, canoeing, fishing, golfing, horse riding, climbing and abseiling. You could also visit the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway, and take a ride on a steam train or enjoy the treetop assault course at Go Ape.
In the village itself, there are 2 public houses, both of which offer good tasty food. The Woodman is next door to Edale House and the Fountain Inn is at the crossroads, by the village post office and within easy walking distance. If you wish to eat at either pub on a Friday or Saturday evening, booking is advised. The local shop sells all the main newspapers however, if you would like a newspaper delivered during your stay please let the staff know and they will arrange for it to be delivered to you each morning.
An ordnance survey map is available if required, please ask if you would like to use one if walking locally.
A wet room is available as you come in the front door of Edale House. Please use it for wet walking clothing and boots. There are also large umbrellas for your use if required. Bicycles can be safely stored in this room also.
An iron and ironing board are available on request, and a trouser press is available on the top floor, adjacent to Room 5.
Please ask if you require the telephone book or yellow pages. The house also has the business cards of local taxi firms
