The Lago Puelo National Park was created as an annex to Los Alerces National Park in 1937. In 1971 it was declared an independent National Park and Reserve.

The Lago Puelo National Park belongs to the Patagonian forest and steppe eco-regions -whose climate is temperate to cold and humid, with snowfalls and winter rains- and the high Andes whose soils are skeletal and of incipient evolution.



This National Park protects the imposing landscape that it contains and the Valdivian flora that enters through Paso Puelo.



There are two routes that allow access to the Lago Puelo National Park.



From San Carlos de Bariloche you can access the city of El Bolsón through National Route 258, after traveling 135 km. From there you travel 11 km along Provincial Route No. 16 to the town of Lago Puelo. Then 4 km of gravel road are traveled to the edge of Lake Puelo, within the National Park.



It is also possible to access from the town of El Hoyo. From this town you can access the Epuyén Brazo, better known as El Desemboque, by a gravel road of 13 km.



Visitors are suggested to remember that the National Park is a protected area and therefore it is necessary:



Return with the waste you generated, do not bury it.

Camping only in authorized places.

Do not make trenches.

Avoid cutting branches.

Use containers to sanitize, wash clothes and utensils. Do not do it directly in rivers and lakes.

To make a fire, use existing stoves or do it away from vegetation, and only use dry wood, which can be split by hand.







It covers an area of ​​27,674 hectares, and is located in the extreme northwest of the Province of Chubut, bordering the Republic of Chile.



This National Park was created with the aim of protecting the imposing landscape it contains and the Valdivian flora that enters through Paso Puelo.
