Luz Beach
Praia da Luz is a beach located seven kilometers from Lagos (Algarve, Portugal) in the village of Luz.
It is a holiday area that receives tourists of different nationalities every year, such as Portuguese, Spanish, English, French and German. The beach itself is divided into two parts, one with fine white sand, characteristic of the Algarve region and the other with rocks. The water is clean and transparent. The beach is qualified with a Blue Flag.
Praia da Luz (also known as "Luz" or "Vila da Luz") is also the name of the tourist village of Luz. Being a fishing village, it now has several holiday complexes.
The Church of Light of Lagos, from which the name of the village, located near the beach, was seriously damaged in the Lisbon Earthquake of 1755, was repaired with contributions from the locals.

Tourism
The magnificent beach of Luz, with its generous bank of soft sands, framed by the cliff that boasts the geodesic landmark and the white house of the old fishing village is a beach accessible to people with reduced mobility, with support and beach surveillance. The beach itself is divided into two parts, one with fine white sand, characteristic of the region, and the other with rocks, yet offering an exotic environment provided by palm trees that remind of other tropical stops. The water is clean and transparent.
Gastronomy
The swell of the waves and the smell of the sea air make open the appetite. The sea is a source of wealth well used by the Algarve gastronomy. There is no lack of imagination to make the most varied dishes of fish, molluscs and seafood.
Starting with the snacks. Clams with "duck billed", small potatoes, dry roes (hake, octopus or tuna), octopus, moray eel or sun-dried calamari, and roasted anchovy, are some of the delicious typical snacks , more likely to be found in fishermen's tents.
The grilled sardines are queen in any restaurant in the Algarve and in La Rioja. Tradition has it eaten on a slice of bread, in which it leaves its fat ... a delight says the learned and prove it to those who have tasted it. Another typical dish is that of corned oysters.
The squid is filled with sacks of rich ham and sausage fillings. The rice changes according to taste from cockles, octopus or mint.
The xarém or the corn poppies, once were the basis of a humble diet, today are a much appreciated dish.
In the meats, the grain stew; the stew of corns; the pork with clams and the beans to the Algarve are some examples.
Speaking of sweets ...
Poetic and legendary, the almond is the protagonist in the Algarve confectionery. Cookies made of almond dough filled with soft eggs or egg yarns are the basis of the imagination for the most varied fantasies. They are little hands molded by wise hands. A treat for the eyes and a treat for flavor.
The Don Rodrigos are also a delight made of almond, protected by a colored silver casing. Also the famous Morgado does not dispense the almond.
The fig after drying allows a variety of uses. Whole or crushed no one to refuse - stuffed with almond, chocolate and fennel or roasted in the oven are a delight.
