Dakar
Dakar région is the smallest and most populated region of Senegal, encompassing the capital city of the country, Dakar, and all its suburbs along the Cap-Vert Peninsula, Africa's most westerly point.
Tourism
African Renaissance Monument
This colossal monument is dedicated to the African independence of the European regimes that once controlled the continent and the end of slavery.
IFAN Museum of African Arts
One of the most interesting museums in the city, and a must for lovers of African art. It has an excellent collection of masks and statues from all over West Africa.
Island of Gorée (Ile de Gorée)
The island has an interesting colonial architecture, including the "House of Slaves" museum, one of the island's high points. Other attractions of the island include the three museums (one dedicated to the woman, one to the sea and another to the history of Senegal); the Castle of Gorée, the Police Station and also a small beach.
Les Almadies (Les pointes des Almadies).
The western tip of the African continent, where several seafood restaurants are located, as well as a luxury resort. It also has a reputation as one of the best places to surf in Senegal.
Great Mosque of Dakar (Great Mosque of Dakar)
Built in 1964. The Grand Mosque is an attraction of great significance in this Muslim country: if you are in Dakar on a sixth stop and listen to the call to prayer. Non-Muslim women can not enter, but non-Muslim men can enter, as long as it is just to observe.
Cathedral of Dakar (Cathédrale de Dakar)
Consecrated in 1936, it is the largest church in Dakar. A large but somewhat uninteresting building with 1920's architecture. Still worth a visit.
Hann Park (Parc Forestier de Hann)
It is a nature reserve that occupies approximately 80 hectares of forest and swamp, containing a zoo (the Senegal Zoo, which is also worth a visit). The park attracts young people from the city as well as several tourists.

Gastronomy
In addition to the restaurants, the streets of Dakar are filled with stalls selling all types of street food: roasted peanuts (delicious, not greasy and with the right amount of salt - and sometimes still hot), nuts, fruit, and other Senegalese snacks. There are many sandwich shops and small stalls selling bread, where you can get egg sandwiches or fast and cheap food.
The Les Almadies area is full of seafood and fish restaurants.
