It was inhabited between 400 and 1000 AD by the Wachemines. These formed the Huamachuco manor at the height of the Mochicas and conserved their autonomy until their main god, Atagujo, became subordinate to the sun and were absorbed by the expansion of the Tahuantinsuyo.



Markahuamachuco is a fortress and is made up of three main elevations: El Cerro del Castillo to the east, El Cerro de los Corrales to the center and the Galerías del Cerro Las Monjas to the west.



The Castle consists of a circular fortress with a double wall, the large square square of 60 meters and the galleries that would have fulfilled different functions. The double wall, due to the fact that it was built on the cliffs of the Cerro, would serve as defensive walls.



Cerro Las Monjas consists of seven circular buildings, one of which has a double defensive circular wall.



Cerro de los Corrales presents remains of a rounded fortress, medium-sized rectangular rooms, and areas bordered by low walls.



This imposing archaeological complex is located at the top of the Marka Huaman Churo hill, at 3700 meters above sea level, from where it dominates the Andean valley.



The best preserved architectural structures are the walls that can reach 4.5 km in length; the rectangular towers, which reach a height of 2 meters; the squares and circular structures with compartments and galleries. Construction based on stone joined with clay mortar. Its design and distribution demonstrate a broad domain of constructive engineering, urban planning and architectural art.



They are five square kilometers, surrounded by rugged rocks and deep ravines. From the top you can see the majestic Condebamba valley, cut by a crystalline river. The colors are complemented by the forests and potato crops with their white and purple flowers and the intense blue sky thick with clouds.
