The Ponta de São Lourenço is the most easterly tip of Madeira and is a natural reserve with panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and spectacular rock formations; is a unique landscape very different from the rest of the island.
If you take a walk you will find a variety of different plants, such as the frozen herb (Mesembryanthemum crystallinum), thistle (Cynara cardunculus), Mastata (Bassia tomentosa), Perpetua de São Lourenço (Helichrysum devium), Murrião (Helichrysum obconicum) and many others. Down the slope you will find a secluded beach called Prainha, which is the island's only natural black sand beach. Very sought after by locals is great for bathing.
