Pernik's regional history museum is situated in the center of Pernik, near St. Ivan Rilski church. It welcomes visitors each weekday from 9 am to midday and from 1 pm and 4.30 pm. Entrance ticket costs one lev and hiring a guide would cost additional five lev.



The museum was created in 1953. Its first collection was presented in 1957. The entire exposition was presented for the first time in 1973 in the Miner’s House. All exhibition items have been positioned on a total area of ​​965 sq m.



Items are separated in an archeology and an ethnographic collection. Some of the artifacts are impressive. A stone plate discovered near the village of Kalishte is displayed on the first museum floor. It dates back to the 13th and 12th centuries BC and used to act as a grave stone. Another interesting item is a sword from the late Bronze Age.



Artifacts discovered during the excavation works at Krakra hill have also been displayed. These date back to several epochs, from the Neolith to the Middle Ages. Various ceramic and metal dishes, jewelry and weapons were discovered.



The ethnographic collection contains traditional clothing from various settlements in Pernik region, as well as traditional ceramic dishes.



Items from the prehistoric period have been presented on the second museum floor. Some of the most elaborate ancient jewelry can be seen there.



Pernik’s history museum often organizes temporary exhibitions.
